Translation, localisation, transcreation

Translation

Translation is the science and art of shifting messages and ideas from one language to another. Often misunderstood as a simple word-for-word transfer, the translation process involves a great deal of mental effort and the use of a wide range of translation techniques. An excellent, fluent translation can only be completed by a trained, experienced, and proven professional.

If you decide to use my Croatian translation services, you can expect:

  • Text that uses appropriate grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Text that faithfully reflects the meaning and intent of the source text
  • Text that uses accurate terminology related to a certain field or a specific company
  • Text that uses consistent terminology
  • Text that is naturally sounding and idiomatic
  • Text that uses sensitive, inclusive language

Localisation

Localisation depends on translation, but it also requires the adaptation of all the elements of a product or service. These elements include text, design, user interface, and user experience. The content needs to be culturally relevant to the target locale, for example, by incorporating familiar references. Furthermore, content should follow locale-specific conventions, such as time, date, address, currency, and units of measurement. It should fit within the allocated space and be formatted appropriately.

A later stage in the localisation process can involve linguistic and functional testing. Both of them are familiar to me.

In most cases, localisation is associated with brands expanding into new markets with their products and services. It can be a website, an app, or anything digital at all.

My work as a localiser means that I’m tech-savvy and up-to-date on technological trends. I own different devices with the latest operating systems. This allows me to carry out the most demanding localisation tasks.

Transcreation

Along with translation, all marketing materials will require transcreation at some point. This is a technique that emphasizes the emotional impact on readers. The ultimate goal of transcreation is to connect with customers in the target country, engage them with calls to action, and ultimately sell to them. In essence, it’s another word for creative translation. This is a blend of translation and copywriting. A great example of transcreation would be slogans, ads, or movie titles.

I have extensive experience with the following kinds of marketing materials:

  • Slogans
  • Advertising content
    (print adverts and online ads)
  • Brochures and leaflets
  • Web content
  • SEO content
  • Press releases
  • Presentations and proposals
  • Direct mail
  • Articles (of all kinds)
  • Social media posts
  • Newsletters

Thank you for your excellent translation. The source text was very complex, but you still delivered an accurate and consistent translation. You observed all the Croatian grammatical, syntactic, and orthographic rules, you consulted the relevant legislation, you thoroughly researched the terminology, and you maintained your high quality throughout the text.
